Adult Dance Classes

This beginning/intermediate adult musical theatre class introduces and expands upon ballet and jazz techniques as well as popular movement styles from Broadway choreographers such as Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins. Students will also gain experience in learning short sequences quickly to help in other dance classes, auditions, or just to have fun. Classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment so don’t worry if you feel a bit nervous. Most of the time you will be dancing in a group, although you will also have the occasional chance to leap into the spotlight!

- Establishing strong dance technique
- Increasing strength, flexibility, and endurance
- Learning the dance vocabulary used in musical theatre
- Enhancing audition techniques and preparedness
- Learning both musical theatre and dance history which are incorporated right into the class
Meet the Instructor…
Courtney Cummings is a graduate of dance program at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. In addition to her collegiate training at Belmont, Courtney received her dance and musical theatre training from Harrison School of the Arts, and Gayle Ellerbe from Highland School of Dance. She is trained in ballet, modern, jazz, tap and musical theatre, with a forte in tap and musical theatre.
Courtney has produced choreography for several shows for Lakeland Community Theatre, Theatre Winter Haven and Southeastern University, such as Beauty and the Beast, Children of Eden, The Addams Family, Ivy + Bean, Cinderella, and Spamalot. Some of her performance credits include: Kathy Selden in Singin’ In the Rain, Velma Kelly in Chicago, Rapunzel in Into The Woods, The Fairy Godmother in Shrek, and Woman 1 in Songs for a New World.
Currently, Courtney is in her fifth year as the dance educator at McLaughlin Fine Arts Academy in Lake Wales where she has choreographed over 140 pieces for her students. Last year she was awarded the Arts Achieve Model School status for dance education by the Florida Alliance for Arts Education. She is also currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Dance Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
*Our adult dance class includes 10 sessions to be held over 12 weeks with 2 additional weeks for make-up classes.
