Best known in the Winter Haven area for his stirring portrayal as Buddy Holly in the 2014 run of The Buddy Holly Story, Andy Matchett makes his triumphant return to Theatre Winter Haven on
April 18th & 19th with their presentation – ROY, BUDDY & HANK: ORIGINAL LEGENDS, the most authentic and energetic tribute show in America.
Along with his unbelievable 8-piece band, Johnny Wild and the Delights (formerly Johnny Dee and the Starlights), Andy Matchett (aka Johnny Wild) brings all three Legends to life in full cos- tume and character with the utmost passion, respect and accuracy, making you feel as if you’ve been transported directly to the Golden Age of Rock ’n Roll and Country Music.
Fresh off his recent casting as Buddy in the National Tour of The Buddy Holly Story, Andy and his band have been earning praise from sold-out crowds and critics alike. According to the Lake- land Ledger, “Matchett grabs the heart and soul of Holly and serves it to the audience with equal parts sensitivity, humor, and fine tuned musical skill… The audience loves him.” Matt Palm of The Orlando Sentinel says: “He can evoke a performer’s spirit without resorting to Vegas-style impersonation, and his charisma captivates an audience’s attention… Singing with a focused intensity, Matchett lets us see into [his character’s] soul.”
Featuring four full sets of music, ROY, BUDDY & HANK: ORIGINAL LEGENDS also features some special guest appearances, including hosting and performances by none other than The- atre Winter Haven’s very own Big Bopper. Thom Mesrobian, an award-winning Theatre Winter Haven audience favorite in his own right, joins the band to reprise his remarkable portrayal of another late, great Legend of Rock. The Bop will have you grinning ear to ear as you sing and clap along with his own timeless tunes.
You’ll also have the pleasure of enjoying the vocal stylings of the lovely Wildettes, a beautiful trio of female backup singers who will bring you to tears and cheers with their own solo perfor- mances between sets. In fact, the entire band of Delights is made up of peerless musicians at every position – stand up bass, lead guitar, piano, drums, fiddle and lap steel – all come alive to achieve a musical experience so immersive and detailed, you’ll swear the Crickets and Drifting Cowboys had just stepped out of a time machine for your viewing and listening pleasure.
With an authenticity and a passion rarely seen among tribute projects, Johnny Wild and the De- lights are out to change the way you think about classic rock musical revues. More than just a cover band, Johnny Wild’s goal is to make the audience truly believe they are watching the Legends of the era and, according to scores of sold-out crowds and critics alike, they are doing just that. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the revolution!
