The author herself
describers the Pulitzer prize-winning “To Kill a Mockingbird”
as “a love story, pure and simple.” Love for the South, a
father’s love for his children and their love for him as told
through the eyes of Scout, a young girl with a thirst for
understanding and compassion. The story itself is about
dignity, tolerance and the difficulties of growing up in a
rural community in Alabama during the depression year of
1935. When Tom Robinson, a black man, is falsely accused and
Scout’s father is asked to defend him, a journey of discovery
unfolds for both this young girl and us, the citizens of
tomorrow.
